Sure, I know most people find it a little bit gross or something, but this was the kind of fear that absolutely haunted me, as you’ll see later in the list. Even if it’s not a character or anything, and it’s just the camera going in there for whatever reason, it made my skin crawl on a level that nothing else ever did And it’s not because I’m scared of gore or anything, I was actually pretty chill with that even when I was growing up I literally have no explanation for why this kind of thing wigged me out so much. No matter how it was presented to me - realistic, cartoony, still, moving, first-person, third-person, cellular, tissue-level, meant to educate, meant to illustrate, anything - I was always utterly paralyzed with fear when it comes to media that portrays the act of being inside somebody or something somehow. And all because of its nasty little habit of doing this.Īllow me to start this list my deepest-rooted, most unexplainable and most irrational phobia: imagery involving the very inner mechanisms that keep us alive. And not just once or twice, no no no - I was consistently terrified of watching this show. So for a show that I loved so wholly and watched so frequently, so much so that it’s the only show from my childhood that I can definitively say I’ve seen every episode from, the last thing you’d expect it to do was scare me, right? And I was a huge science dork as a kid, so having such a fun way to learn about it was a huge blessing to me that I never missed the chance to tune in - okay, not “tune in”, because we didn’t have cable or anything like that, we got them on-demand and on Netflix, back when they sent you movies in those little paper slips…okay whatever, just take the figure of speech and roll with it. Anybody who grew up watching it knows why it was so good - so few very few cartoons were as masterful at the art of edutainment as Miss Friz and the gang. I don’t think I can express with words how in love with The Magic School Bus I was as a child, and I don’t think I need to. Stop me if listening to this song gives you any of the good ol’ Nostalgia chills. Let’s start with a show many, many of you should have fond memories of. So, in the words of JoshScorcher, time to embarrass myself. I should also point out that, for the most part, my family actually did do a good job of keeping me away from media I shouldn’t have seen until I was older, so most everything on here is pretty weird, no longer remotely scary, and mostly stemming from specific phobias I happened to have. ![]() This list won’t be in any particular order, but I did try to save the worst for last. It was definitely fun thinking back and remembering these, and trying to rationalize why they scared me, so hopefully it’ll be a fun enough read as well. Unfortunately, I don’t have the means to make a Youtube video, so to take my piece of the pie, I’m going to talk about them right here. ![]() And thanks to YourMovieSucks and his popularity, it’s become quite a trend on Youtube to share these moments and talk about their experiences with them, which I find quite enjoyable to watch. No matter how brave we thought we were as kids, or how careful our parents were at keeping us away from media we weren’t old enough to see yet, everybody can remember at least a handful of movie, show, or video game moments that felt soul-scarringly terrifying at the time, even if the fear has worn off over the years. We all have it, and some of us would rather forget it.
